Should You Adjust Your Automatic Slack Adjuster?
Because a properly installed, operated and lubricated automatic slack adjuster should never require adjustment after initial setup, in addition to brake pads, Bendix emphasizes that an out-of-adjust ASA should not be simply manually adjusted to correct an out-of-adjust brake stroke.
How often should an automatic slack adjuster be lubricated?
every six months
Every six months or 50,000 miles, lubricate the slack adjuster with an approved grease. The adjuster has a grease fitting to allow lubrication during normal chassis service
Do all trucks have automatic slack adjusters?
Vehicles manufactured after 1994 have an automatic slack adjuster that adjusts itself during full brake application and only requires manual adjustment during installation. However, all braking systems, whether manual or automatic slack adjusters, should have regular maintenance checks.
